Municipalities and Public Safety
Real-time crime centers, traffic cameras and public-safety networks are growing into thousands of cameras citywide. MARCIA™ adds a scalable long-term tier on economical LTO behind the existing VMS, so cities can keep more video, at higher quality, without primary-storage costs growing as fast as their camera networks.
The challenge
Municipal video surveillance is rapidly evolving beyond isolated camera systems. Cities are deploying public-safety cameras, traffic and infrastructure cameras, license plate recognition systems, mobile surveillance, and Real-Time Crime Centers that bring multiple information sources together for incident response and investigation. Large cities can already operate or access thousands of cameras distributed across streets, public facilities, transportation infrastructure, parks, and critical locations.
How MARCIA™ helps
As these networks expand, municipalities face the same fundamental economics as every large surveillance environment: higher resolution and longer retention can require enormous amounts of disk. MARCIA™ introduces a scalable long-term storage tier that allows municipalities to preserve far more recorded video on economical LTO while maintaining a smaller high-performance disk tier for active footage. This can help agencies improve recording quality and retention without allowing primary-storage costs to grow at the same rate as their camera networks.
Better video, better outcomes
More complete visual history can improve criminal investigations, incident reconstruction, emergency response review, traffic investigations, infrastructure protection, missing-person cases, prosecution support, and public-safety analysis. Longer retention can also allow agencies to apply new analytical technologies to historical footage that would otherwise have been overwritten. Each municipality can continue to enforce its own privacy, public-records, evidence-retention, and surveillance-governance requirements.
No new workflow for operators
MARCIA is designed to operate behind the existing VMS environment so officers, investigators, and analysts do not need to learn a separate archive application. They request historical footage through the normal VMS workflow while MARCIA manages long-term retrieval. For growing municipal camera networks, that creates a practical path from simply recording events to preserving Enterprise Visual Continuity.
Not sure where you fit?
Every environment starts with the same question: what happens to your video after today?
